Sunday Shakedown: "Distractions and...

SawxFawx wrote this 7 months ago on |
3:50 minutes of my day were spent watching today's 18-10 win in Baltimore. The It was thrilling to see the Sox dominate the Orioles pitching and bullpen with 23, but between runs, there was also a lot of down time. This weeks Shakedown format might seem confusing to some, but to some extent, it parallels the theme of today's game: a few hits - then a few distractions. Starts off with with an overview of the Red Sox recent trades and transactions, then moves into the bulk of the piece. Enjoy :)

STEROIDS: This Time It's Personal

Brazen efforts by the New York Times to revile the Boston Red Sox and their 2004 World Series accomplishments have sent shock waves through the media wire.
Breaking shortly before game time, Michael Schmidt of the New York Times released a groundbreaking news story highlighting the careers of David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez as being among few cited for testing positive to performance enhancing drugs in...

No one was talking about Josh Beckett yesterday in Boston. Talk of the inevitable doom-and-gloom and John Smoltz' career sat stale in the summer heat as temperatures reached 90 degrees. Everyone was sweating. Monstrous perspiration. How uncanny to think that a team, weeks removed from a flawless operation, is now physically feeling the pressure mounting...

Monday Shakedown: "Health" - Part I

Hey SawxHeads Nation: What is healthy to you? A home cooked meal? A four-day weekend? A four-game lead on the New York Yankees in the East? Lamenting about John Smoltz and his no-so-rehabilitated labrum in his shoulder? Working countless ours on a video project because you think its JUST THAT special? Haha, well, since couldn't get this in to you all on Sunday - I'm temporarily changing making this the Monday Shakedown - one time deal. Same great fun, best enjoyed hot with your Monday morning...

As a woman in my young generation, I try to look beyond the black and white. I am a sports fanatic, an anomaly to some—being a female journalist with a handle on the world’s daily sports show tunes. It’s hard to distinguish myself amongst the rest. To really make it in this business, you need assertion, a steep bank of adjectives and stats, and a strong will to survive in an industry that is constantly trying to cut...

I have run through plenty of resolution strategies to fix Boston's current crisis, but I'm pretty sure they've all been thought about once before. For starters: John Smoltz and the bullpen. No, I'm not talking about musical instruments and warm up time, I'm talking about a permenant sleepover out in center field. If he doesn’t start to perform or show consistency after his next start and/or before the trading...

Is Roy Halladay really the bee’s knees? The inner man is wound up tighter than an 8-day clock because he knows his time in Toronto is on the outs. He keeps high expectations of himself, which he maintains time and time again, exemplified perfectly by pitching his fourth complete game of the season, and a 3-1 win Sunday over the Red Sox at the Rogers Centre. ...

All In the Family

For Dustin Pedroia, family has always been his number one priority. Growing up in Woodlands, CA with Guy and Debbie, parental love was never in short supply. He was a rambunctious kid with a heart of gold and a lifetime commitment to hard work. ‘Dustin Being Dustin’ wasn’t always so quiet and well behaved, but his family kept him in line. Older brother Brett is five years his senior, and...

There were a few things missing from last night’s All-Star Game. Since the only thing combustible in baseball these days seems to be a Manny Ramirez temper flare on par with Bob Knight and Lou Piniella, certainly Bud Selig and Co. were content with the fun loving nature of the 80th All-Star Game and celebrations in St. Louis, Missouri.

Where do trade rumors actually start? Take a look at the Toronto Blue Jays. Underachieving team in a powerful division? Check. Perennial all-star being dragged down by the second-rate, rather, third-rate success of his team? Check. Big time contract dwindling down to its last few threads? Looming trade deadline with greedy rivals licking their chops and anxiously waiting in the wings? Check, check. I should add one last thing to that paragraph: Distinct economical rebound permitting MLB...

You’ll hear the din of hands collectively clapping, as the man with the 11-letter surname struts into the batters box. When 16-bars of “O Fortuna” ring through the nestles and nooks of Fenway Park tonight, the classical latin composer Carl Orff...

I needed a little overtime on this one because I was enjoying my "rest and relaxation" a little too much... But, I think I'm just as good as Julio Lugo in extra innings - he's batting 800 in OT whereas the rest of the team is batting .203. Haha, well if you watch the video - you can (hopefully not that bad) tell that I took a mini intermission because I had to make sure this one was UNDER 10. Which it is. Here's the ABCs of Red Sox baseball as of Sunday July 5th... ending at R - can you fill...

First and foremost, great win by the Sox tonight. Lester was phenomenal tonight pitching seven scoreless, fanning 8, and not issuing a walk or hit batsman. Some might have believed that his 7th win of the season was a gimme, seeing as though he was 7-0 against the Orioles, 2-0 at...

I wrote this article about John Smoltz last week that never got posted to the mainstream SawxHeads site. Jeff Schultz, sports journalist for the Atlanta Journal Constitution is someone who really knows...

This week's rendition of the Sunday Shakedown is a reflection of the past three games in Philadelphia, where the Red Sox took 2 of 3 from the reigning World Champs. It's a little long but it covers a lot of ground. Enjoy :)

There’s only one-way to describe last night’s 7-0 Yankee shlack: dominant. Or would you call it, ‘satisfellect,’ satisfyingly excellent? My HD cable connection has been tile-ing and I’m blaming Comcast. I have very mixed feelings about their services. When I was at school, my wireless Internet service was shotty, and the cable connection never lived up to the price I paid every month. That being said, the customer service was always great and there’s obviously a good reason why the company does so much business.

The Boston Red Sox are looking to take two out of three against the Tampa Bay Rays today when Daisuke Matsuzaka makes his first start of the season, taking the mound today against Matt Garza at 1:35. Spring hits Lansdowne for the first time this season, as the two ball clubs aim to capitalize on a 1-1 season start, and continue anew the successes of old.

Yes folks, our anticipation will remain until tomorrow, due to a low-pressure system moving through the East Coast which has everyone's Opening Day on hold.

As of now, the Sox rescheduled a 2:05 start for tomorrow, Tuesday April 7th at Fenway Park against...

Without making many off season moves, our team has quietly moved to the forefront the latest MLB predictions. This notion is also confirmed by Baseball Almanac, an issue I picked at my internship today.
