This Day in Red Sox History.
November 12, 2008

November 12
1891: Red Sox pitcher Carl Mays is born in Liberty, Kentucky.
Mays was the winning pitcher in the decisive Game 6 of the 1918 World Series.

1920: Red Sox owner Harry Frazee along with the rest of the owners unanimously elects KennesawMountain Landis Chairman for seven years. Their reasoning is in direct response to the “Black Sox Scandal” and the threat it presented to the integrity of the game. Landis accepts, but only as sole Commissioner, with final authority over players and owners, while remaining a federal judge.

1939: The youngest of the three DiMaggio brothers, Dom, is bought for $40,000 from San Francisco of the PacificCoast League by the Boston Red Sox.

1986: Roger Clemens becomes the second American League pitcher to unanimously win the Cy Young Award. The only other player to do so is Denny McLain in 1968.

2007: Dustin Pedroia becomes the sixith Red Sox player to win the American League Rookie of the Year. Peds was listed as first on 24 out of 28 Baseball Writers Association of America ballots.
