1916: Tilly Walker homer is not only the Red Sox only hit in today’s game, but it is also the only home run he will hit all season. Also in today’s 4-1 loss to the Yankees Everett Scott is inserted as a defensive replacement. This is the first of 1,307 consecutive games he will play in. The steak last ends on May 6th 1925 in a Yankees uniform. His streak will last until Lou Gehrig would set the mark at 2,130 games.
1918: Splitting today’s double header with the A’s the Red Sox lose game one 2-0, and win the nitecap 3-0. In game Tilly Walker hits a two run homer out of Fenway and on to Lansdowne Avenue. He also knocks Dutch Leonard out of the game in the night game when a ball of his bat hits Leonard in the hand.
1921: Babe Ruth hits his 127th homerun in his former home park to lift the Yankees to a 7-6 win in 10 innings. The homer moves the Bambino into second place on the all time home run list and only 11 behind the Roger Connor.
1940: The Browns (Orioles) sweep a double header and the four game series 2-1 and 11-4.
1947: St. Louis sells Denny Galehouse to back to Boston, the same team that traded him to the Browns in 1938.
1951: Bobby Avila has five hits, including three home runs in the Indians 14-8 win over the Red Sox.
1973: Rick Miller and Reggie Smith hit back to back lead off homers off of Bill Parsons to be the Brewers 3-2. Bill “Space Man” Lee is the winning pitcher.
1977: Butch Hobson’s homer in today’s 4-0 win over the Orioles in Memorial Stadium is the 22nd homer by a Red Sox batter in the past six games. This sets a Major League record.
1980: 5’ 5’’ Fred Patek has three homers for the Angels in the 20-2 win over Boston.
1996: Kenny Lofton’s bloop single of Mike Stanton in the ninth inning gives the Indians a 5-4 win and their 13th straight win over the BoSox.
2004: Kevin Youkilis’ double in the sixith inning is the Red Sox only hit in a 4-0 loss to the Giants.
