Sox Call Up Kazmir
September 16, 2008
(St. Petersburg). The Boston Red Sox, in a surprise September move, recalled Rays "Ace" Scott Kazmir as their permanent Batting Practice pitcher. How'd it work out?
"Not much good to us," according to manager Francona. "The guy didn't really get it over the plate, and, when he did, our guys just went yard. Reminds me of Josh a couple of outings ago." Francona was referring to the dusting Josh Beckett took right before going on the DL.
Kazmir's future in Boston doesn't look so bright, as evidenced by his facial expression upon leaving last night's game. "He looked like he just found out his grandfather was beaten to death in a home invasion," said Sox pitching coach, John Farrell, then added, "come to think of it, did anybody see Zim around?"
Madly in love with Kazmir (and Percival), Rays manager Joe Maddon will likely allow Kazmir to play for the Sox again in the post-season, when the teams meet in the ALCS. Whatever the case, the Red Sox have to be happy to have a player of Kazmir's skill on their side.
