I hate FOX
August 25, 2007

I live in California, not exactly in the Red Sox local area. Fine I bought MLBTV and have the luxury of watching all Red Sox games on my computer, except when they are "featured" on Fox. OK I can understand that FOX wants to carry several games on Saturdays and I can understand that there is regional crap that people want to watch that would be considered local, but if you are gonna not show the games why make it so that no one execpt those that are lucky enough to have it on their local Fox. Today (8/25) I could not watch the game in Santa Clara, California because my local FOX only played the LA at Mets game, and yet still had the game blacked out due to National Live Broadcast. If you are not gonna show it then don't disallow anyone out of area to watch it. At least make it available on FOX online or something or play it on MLBTV and show the commercials so you can get your advertisers their moneysworth.

Well, I can't say that I know where your coming from, bro, but just look at it this way, at least when the Red Sox come to Oakland or San Fran you can see them for a reasonable price, those of us not fortunate enough to have the cash the day the tickets go on sale, are paying $50-$70 for bleachers at Fenway.

I have to agree with coff. I'm thinking about a trip to baltimore next year, because even with a hotel the trip will cost less thatn seeing the Sox at Fenway.

Captain ..
ok maybe i can go and see the Red Sox four times a year when they come here, but that still does not solve the fact that i can"t watch games for which I pay, and for which Fox's sponsors pay for us to see. Oh and I saw a Red Sox game at Fenway for $25 a ticket in July that's way better than a hotel room in Baltimore. It's all about the scalpers!

By the way, getting tickets to local games in California when the Red Sox are here, go through the roof.

Hmmm very sneaky of them. They do allude to such in their fine print when you purchase the subscription. I haven't had that problem here in northern NJ, but here's why: my local FOX will ALWAYS play the Mets, therefore not playing the Sox, therefore I haven't experienced a blackout on my MLBTV subscription. I will see if my buddy Dano has had any issues.

Definitely taken by this myself on an early weekend when we had a day game, not on fox, but found out any game before 7pm on Sat is Fox property and blacked out on mlb.tv. Similar issues w/DirecTV for NFL games, so while it's not a perfect world, it beats listening on my scratchy AM radio of 25 years ago. One suggestion, depending on cost limitations, is using XM radio as a backup as I don't think their radio feed is interrupted by TV rights. ...View More

yeah i still get the radio feed, but i don't understand why MLB spends money on putting quality games together and then disallows people to watch it due to local broadcasts.

With the MLB Extra Innings package, you can't just subscribe to NESN on DirecTV anymore to get the Sox games. The only way you can see the games is to get the entire MLB package and then with that, you can only see the games they let you see. No pre-game, no post-game. Sometimes they literally cut off the feed seconds after the final out. So, all those promos you see on NESN about Sox Appeal and the other shows? Forget it if you have MLB package. And, if you do get the MLB package, they (MLB) determine which market you're in. So, you can't get the games of your local market through the package. I live in Charlotte, NC and MLB has decided that Charlotte is Cincinnati Reds market. So, every Reds game was blacked out this year. Not a biggie because it's the Reds, but still comical that they look at a map of the US and figure people in NC care about the Reds. ...View More
